Yamaguchi Ryôshû was born in 1885 in Kyoto. He was adopted into a renowned family of Kyogen actors, he studied to become a Noh actor and studying art and painting with Taniguchi Kokyo. He created beautiful prints by combining both his knowledge of the stage and his painting skills. Yamaguchi Ryôshû passed away in 1966.
