Uchida Shizuma was born in Okegawa, Saitama prefecture, in 1906. In 1928 he graduated at the Tokyo Higher Crafts School. In 1932 he became a member of the Nihon Hanga Kyôkai, a.o. He was well-known enough as an artist to contribute to the famous series One hundred views of new Japan - Shin Nihon hyakkei in 1939. His work is rare and seldom found.
