Kaho Akira (1927-2018)

Kaho Akira was born in Tonami, Toyama Prefecture, in 1927. In 1949 he began studying with Nishiyama Suishô (1879-1958), student and son-in-law of Takeuchi Seihô (1964-1942).
Already in 1950 he won his first prize (Sun Exhibition), and from 1951 to 1958 he won in each of the Nitten exhibitions, after which he became a judge for that organization. From that moment on he won many more prizes, culminating in the Kyôto Art and Culture Award 1997. Two years later his work was included in the permanent collection of the newly opened Suiboku Museum in Toyama. An important artist.
