Description
Leaves from the Sketch Books of Frank Brangwyn cut by Urushibara Portfolio with 20 woodblock prints, a 4-page leaflet with an introduction by Lawrence Binyon, published in Leigh-on-sea by F. Lewis in 1940. Number 1 from an edition of 50, signed by Urushibara in pencil. Urushibara made a selection from Brangwyn's sketchbooks and turned them into woodblock prints. A stunning achievement, as he managed to keep the sketches alive in the woodblock medium. Each prints is ca. 27 x 35 cm. (sizes vary slightly), and they are printed on different types of paper (smooth, fibrous, thin) added is a trial print, with annotations in Brangwyn's hand (see detail 2).
Condition
Though the folder has seen better days, the prints themselves are in fine condition, each attached to a supporting sheet of thick paper. Photographs of each individual print are available do not hesitate to contact me.
