Sakamoto Isamu was born in Fukushima prefecture in 1931. In 1961 he graduated from Musashino College of Fine Arts Junior College. He was a member of Nippankai (Japan Print Association; also known as Nihon Hangakai) from 1965 and from 1966 a member of Shin Seiki Bijutsu Kyokai (New Century Fine Art Association, founded by oil painters in 1955). As recent as 2010 he is known to have been working.
