Shogo Okamoto was born in Tokyo in 1920. He graduated from the National Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts from the department of oil painting in 1943. He began studying etching in 1965, and in 1967 he exhibited his second one-man show of etchings. He successfully developed his etching technique, exhibiting at the Gallery Papier in Tokyo and the Musee d'Art Moderne, Paris.
