Nagai Ikka was born in 1869. Little is known of his life. He was trained by Suzuki Shônen (1849-1918) and is known to have collaborated with Nakahara Nantembô (1839-1925), where the latter contributed the calligraphy, and Ikka the crows. He is best known for his crows.
