Shigeru Kimura was born in Nara Prefecture. In 1951 he graduated from the Kobe Municipal Foreign Studies College. He left the Kobe Municipal Institute of Western-style Painting in 1956, and started studying etching with Shigeru Izumi and Tetsurô Komai in 1957.
He held his first one-man exhibition in Osaka in 1960, and since 1961 he has had one-man shows in USA and at the Formes Gallery in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo. He is also known to have taught etching in Japan.
