Kawachi Shigeyuki (better known as Kawachi Seiko) was born in Yamanashi prefecture. He graduated from the oil painting department of the Tama College of Fine Arts. In 1976 he became a member of the Nihon Hanga Kyôkai, and also in the 70s his career really took off. He exhibited both inside Japan and abroad, and his work is mostly seen as a comment on the forces and tensions of modern urban life.
