Born in Tokyo in 1928, he studied at the Athénée Francais, then apprenticed with Shinagawa Takumi (1908-2009) from 1952. He exhibited in 1954 at the Nihon Hanga Kyokai (Japan Print Association) which he joined in 1967, then was accepted as a member in 1976. Besides prints, hHe is famous for having co-authored a book on woodblock printing with Yoshida Toshi (Japanese Printmaking, A Handbook of Traditional & Modern Techniques).
