Yamakawa Shûhô (1898-1944)

Yamakawa Shûhô is known as a painter as well as a printmaker. He was born in Kyôto, and he was one of the many pupils of Kaburagi Kiyokata (who also taught Itô Shinsui). Like Shinsui he also worked as an illustrator in the 1930's. In this period a relatively small number of woodblock prints were published by Watanabe and Bijutsu-sha.
