Utagawa Sadahide (1807-1873)

Utagawa Sadahide was one of Utagawa Kunisada's more accomplished students. He followed closely in his master's footsteps, and he distinguished himself by his Yokohama prints, i.e. prints of Westerners and of industrial developments, after Japan had been opened to the West. He was one of the eleven woodblock artists whose work was shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1866, for which he received the Légion d'Honneur.
