Uemura Shoko (1902-2001)

Uemura Shoko was born in Kyoto in 1902, the elder son of Uemura Shoen. He participated and won prizes in Teiten exhibitions in 1920's and graduated from Kyoto City Art College (currently Kyoto City University of Arts) in 1930 and became professor there in 1949. In 1968, he is chosen to decorate the new rooms in the Imperial Palace. He is specialized in kacho-e paintings, many of which have been done as prints. He passed away in 2001 aged 98.
