Description Hanayagi Shotaro in the role of Taki no Shiraito (The Water Magician) - No.11 in the series Figures of the Modern Stage (現代舞台藝蕐(11) 瀧の白糸 花柳章太郎). Numbered #157 in blindprinting in the lower margin. The play Taki no Shiraito (The White Thread of the Waterfall or The Water Magician) is based on a short story by Izumi Kyoka (1873-1939) Giketsu Kyōketsu (義 血 侠 血) (The Righteous and the Chivalrous) written in 1894 and adapted to kabuki in early 1950’s in the Shinpa (New School) style. Shinpa is a melodramatic, sentimental form of kabuki with tragic endings where some female roles are played by women.
Condition Fine impression, colours and condition. Some stains on the back, two drying holes in the left margin. Comes with an explanation sheet (in Japanese)
