Ono Bakufû (1888-1976)

Ôno Bakufû was born in Tokyo, but he moved to Kansai after the 1923 earthquake. He is primarily a painter of landscape paintings and of paintings featuring fish. This is also the most important subject matter of his woodblock prints. His best-known series is The great Japanese fish picture collection (Dai Nihon gyorui gashû), published by Kyoto Hanga-in in 1940. Especially his fish prints and paintings are instantly recognizable.
