Nomura Toshihiko (1904-1987)

Nomura Toshihiko was born in Tokyo in 1904. He was trained as a woodblock carver, but he also studied with Kimura Sôhachi (1893-1958). He started exhibiing prints with the Sôsaku-Hanga Kyôkai in 1927, and in the next ten years he exhibited works at many major sôsaku hanga exhibitions, and contributed prints to many Hanga magazines. Like Koizumi Kishio he also carved blocks for other artists, like Ishii Tsuruzô and his own teacher Kimura Sôhachi. After 1936 he was mainly active as a book illustrator
