Born in Shizuoka City in 1901, Murayama Kankô went to Tokyo to study at the Kawabata painting school. He became a member of the Nihon Sôsaku Hanga Kyôkai in 1927, and of the Nihon Hanga Kyôkai in 1932. He was a productive artist until his death in January 1936. After his death his fellow artists honoured him by showing his work at the 1936 Nihon Hanga Kyôkai exhibition.
