Makino Munenori (1940 - ?)

Makino Munenori was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1940; from 1960 he studied with the traditional Mokuhan printer Urata Giichi. Soon after he had many solo shows, with others from the Shizuoka print group and abroad. Sunsets and night scenes are his specialty. He does every aspect of woodblock print making himself: design, carving and printing. In 2003 he received the Chief Secretary's Prize from the Agency of Cultural Affairs in Japan. He recently created huge-scale ceramic wall prints hanging in the Shizuoka Airport Terminal. His work is highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad.
