Born in Himeji, Hyôgo Prefecture, Hasegawa Tomisaburô graduated at Tottori Normal School in 1936. He studied with Kawai Kanjirô and Munakata Shikô. He was a member of the Kokugakai (National Picture Organisation) and the Banga-in (which changed its name to Nihon Hanga-in - Japanese Woodblock Print Academy in 1984), which was founded by Munakata Shikô in 1952.
