Masao Ebina was born in Kyoto as a son of Japanese painter, Choko Ebina. He studied art in Kyoto Municipal Art and Crafts Special College, graduating in 1935. He is famous for the 54 Chapters of Genji series published in 1950s published by Yamada Shoin.
