Biography Kason, Suzuki (1860 - 1919)

Born in Edo, Suzuki Kason worked as a pattern designer from age 16. Already at 17, in 1877, his gold-lacquer patterns received an award at the first Domestic Industrial Exposition. Subsequently he also made book illustrations and kuchi-e on a freelance basis. The rest of his life he worked as a painter and as a newspaper illustrator.
