Biography Hamada, Josen (1875 - ?)

Hamada Josen was a pupil of Tomioka Eisen (1864-1905), with whom he collaborated on a very well-known series of 12 shunga prints. Apart from making many book and magazine illustrations he contributed to the 1924 series New Ukiyo-e Beauties and to the 1926 series Taisho Shinsai Gashu - Pictures of Taisho Earthquake which documented the earthquake in twenty-five designs by nine different artists.
