Biography Ishizaki Miku (1984 - )

Born in Kanegawa in 1984, Ishizaki Miku was educated at Tokyo Zôkei University, where she studied under Hara Takeshi and Ikushima Junri. In 2008 she received the CWAJ Young Printmaker Award, and in 2010 she made her debut at the annual CWAJ show. Before that, in 2009, she exhibited in a Tokyo group exhibition, at the Annual Exhibition of the Association of Japanese Art Colleges, where she was awarded a prize, and she also had a few solo exhibitions in Ginza galleries. In the last few years she has won further prizes. Her work is now in the Machida Museum of Graphic arts, the Kanuma Municipal Art Museum of Kawakami Sumio, and in the collection of Takayama City Hall.
Ishizaki Miku's very personal style involves using her own handmade washi paper, and she used her 2008 CWAJ Young Printmaker Award to study papermaking techniques and to purchase special equipment.
She is drawn to the diverse expressions that emerge by applying various degrees of pressure on the fine lines and surfaces carved in the woodblock. The combination with the irregularly shaped paper results in highly individual interpretations of nature.
