Description
Sammon (山門) - Temple gate Paper size: 24.6 x 34.3 cm. "Kun" carved in the block (bottom left), titled and signed in ink verso. From Set 1 of the First Thursday Collection (Ichimokushû), published in September 1944. Self-carved and self-printed in an edition of 100. Because the first set was printed in the last year of the war many prints have been destroyed, and prints from this set are rarest.

Fine impression and colours, very good condition: a full-size sheet, larger than the illustration in Kouno, Minoru, Eighty years of Japanese Modern Prints, 1868-1945, Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts, 1996.
