Technique:Sumi and light colour on silk.
Condition:Chūberi (middle part) of beige silk brocade, top and bottom of light-blue silk, brown ichimonji and futai. Lacquer rollers, Titled, signed and dated original wooden box, which is very rare for a painting this age. In very good overall condition. Only the box has suffered from the onslaught of woodworm.

Literature:I. Hirayama and T. Kobayashi (eds.): Hizō Nihon bijutsu taikan-2, Vol. 3 (Tokyo Kodansha 1993). Another painting of two quails with exactly the same signature and seal is in the British Museum.
