Hisui, Sugiura (1876 - 1965)

Hisui zuan-shû. a collection of 50 designs.
First published by Bun’endô in Taisho 4 (1914), this is the 5th printing, published in 1918. These designs were hugely successful and influential at the time, and it is rare to find a portfolio that is still complete: as this was a loose-leaf publication, separate designs tended to be borrowed and not returned. Each sheet is 22.4 x 30.8 cm. They are mainly chromolithographs. There is also a picture of the artist in a separate folder. The main photograph and Detail 1 show all 50 designs, but a zip-file is also available. Detail 2 shows the portfolio.

Fine impressions and colours, good/very good condition: some 3 or 4 sheets a a bit discoloured, but the overall majority is in fine shape.
