Sekino, Jun'ichirô (1914 - 1988)
Iizaka (Steps to the Public Bath)
Paper size: 36.5 x 47.6 cm. Self-printed ca. 1948. This is one of Sekino’s earliest landscapes. On the basis of the printed signature (see detail1), and the handwritten signature on a piece of paper attached to the print verso (see detail 2) it can safely be dated to the late 1940s.
This print is completely unrecorded (not illustrated anywhere), so it is certainly possible, even probable, that this is the only extant copy. Some 30 years later Sekino re-worked this 1948 print into a later, slightly larger and certainly different version. Very, very rare!
Fine impression and colours, very good condition: some printing creases, and a bit of scuffing on the margin bottom left.
