Sekino, Jun'ichir˘ (1914 - 1988)
Portrait of Onchi K˘shir˘
Paper size: 28.1 x 38.2 cm. From Set 1 of the First Thursday Collection (Ichimokushű), published in September 1944. Self-carved and self-printed in an edition of 100. One of the rarest of Ichimokushű prints, with several interesting details: from the Sekino family collection, with "Onchi K˘shir˘" in Sekino's hand verso; scratched original "Z.Sekino 26/30" signature plus later pencil-signed signature (see detail 1); "Onchi K˘shir˘" in blindprinting top left.
Fine impression and colours, very good condition: remarkably few condition issues, considering the low quality paper used (good paper was hard to obtain at the end of the war).
I am still unsure if this print is from a low edition of 30 outside the "official" edition of 100, or if only a limited number of prints inside the edition of 100 were numbered.
