       Japanese Prints & Japanese Paintings

Drawings by Hirezaki, Eih˘

In 1900 Hirezaki Eih˘ started his study with Migita Toshihide, one of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's best pupils. In 1904 he also started to study Shij˘ painting with Kawabata Gyokush˘. In the first part of his career he made a name for himself by making drawings of sumo wrestlers for the Asahi Shimbun. At the same time he exhibited paintings, made designs for kuchi-e, illustrations for novels and magazines, and designs for larger woodblock prints.
