Literature:Shown here is Shibata Shurinosuke Katsuie (1530-1583), as shown in Elena Varshavskaya's Heroes of the grand pacification on p. 63, where we see Kuniyoshi's print, which resembles this drawing closely.
Interestingly enough, the name is given on this drawing is Shibata's real name, not the thinly disguised alias on Kuniyoshi's print (Chibata Shurinoshin Tatsuie). The status of this drawing is unclear; it is not a tracing, nor an exact copy. Possibly it was an assignment given by Utagawa Kuniyoshi to one of his students.
