This is a drawing from the Shimada Zo (= collection). The Maruyama school painter Shimada Trei (1808-1881), in charge of the restaurations of the imperial palace in Kyoto had asked contemporary artists for examples from their work to be used in his restauration. Depicted is a man standing among ferns and radishes, a haiku next to him.
