Biography Tamura, Konosuke (1903 - 1986)

Tamura Konosuke (田村 孝之介) was born in Osaka on September 8 1903. He went to Tokyo in 1920 to study painting, and in 1926 he won a first prize at the 13th Nikaten exhibition, a less conservative exhibition than the government-sponsored Bunten. In 1937 he became a member of the Nikakai. After the war, in 1952, he went to Europe for the first time. He gained growing recognition as an artist, and in 1984 he became a member of the Japan Art Academy and received the Order of Cultural Merit in 1985. He passed away on June 30 1986.
