Biography Rome, Joshua (1953 - )
Joshua Rome was born in New York City in 1953. Joshua Rome traveled to Japan in 1973 and settled in the outskirts of Kyoto. For twenty years, Rome lived with his wife Michiko and two young daughters in a hamlet of twelve households in the hills northwest of Kyoto. He learned the medium of traditional woodblock printmaking from the Kyoto printmaker Clifton Karhu and by working with Daniel Kelley.
Joshua Rome personally performs all the steps required to create a print, unlike most classic printers who usually not only had printers, but carvers as well. Rome's prints are all handmade and therefore, they have more variations.
