Biography Watanabe, Suiha 渡辺 水巴 (1882 - 1946)

Watanabe Suiha was first and foremost a haiku poet. He was born in 1882, the son of Watanabe Seitei, the famous painter. Suiha is his artist's name, his given name was Yoshi.
He belonged to a group of poets who were generally known as "the poets of Taisho Hototogisu". Other members of this group were Kijo Murakami, Fura Maeda, Dakotsu Iida, Sekitei Hara, etc.
The poems of this group describe nature and they express their worship of the eternal and mysterious existence in a traditional style with a lofty tone. Their themes are landscapes or the life of man in the greatness of nature.

The Daruma Museum in Okayama holds a painting with a haiku about Bashō by Watanabe Suiha.
