Biography Ueda, Kôchû 上田 耕沖 (1819 - 1911)

Ueda Kôchû was born in Kyoto, the son and pupil of Ueda Kôfu. After his father's death, in 1832, he moved to Osaka and became a pupil of Nagayama Kôin. During his career as a writer he travelled a lot, and at age 92, shortly before his death, he painted the screens in the Tenman-Jingû in Osaka. He was a prominent painter in Osaka art circles. His son Ueda Kôho was one of his pupils.
