Kunisada, Utagawa (1786 - 1865)

Original woodblock for a print from a Bijin series.
Size: 26.7 x 39.4 x 2 cm. The front is the keyblock, the back has been used for colour blocks, and still shows the remains of one of the proof impressions pasted to the block. The signature reads "Gototei Kunisada ga", and its shape points to a date ca. 1820. There is also a kiwame seal. Very interesting is that a plug (ireki, lit. "inserting wood") was used for the head of the woman.

Euro SOLD

Very good overall condition: there is a narrow vertical crack from top to bottom. The b/w woodblock print was pulled from the block by Paul Binnie, renowned contemporary woodblock artist, who also pulled a few more from the back of the block as well. The prints are included in the price.
